Follow up question to the deadrealm thread

I have a question about the deadrealms issue. http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...quot-Dead-quot

I am all for merging servers. I would rather lose my name (I was the first in WoW - EU/US to use it for a couple of years) then to play on a dead server. I find it appalling that you need to pay blizzard for their inability (deliberate or not) to merge servers and make us pay for it.

What many people in that other thread posted was how many people are "online". Then they post numbers on how many that are and say that the realm is dead. Yes I concur that if you have X players the realm is effectively dead.

My question:

So you see people online, playing the game and those are few on your realm. How many are actually still on your realm but have an inactive account. How would you solve that? Or people who rarely log in, how would you solve that?

So lets say that Blizzard merges servers. What does it do with these people?

So ok let's say that I quit (and a multitude with me) for about a year. When I come back I find myself on a new realm with lots of people. But suddenly because every person that had quit comes back, the realm suddenly has a queue to log into the game/server. How pissed would you be?

So I think I ask a valid question on how to solve this.

You could say: let all those inactive accounts just be in limbo until they log back in the game and then figure it out.
Well this could be a solution. And I think this is the only good one aswell. But what if those people wanted to get back in touch with their former friends (and they haven't a clue what server they went to and have no real ID added). What then?

Personally I'd say to hell with the inactive accounts and just merge already. This game is for the people playing the game. We should not care about people who don't play it.

PS: I didn't post this in the other thread as it likely gets buried quite quickly
