Recently returned to WoW, plz explain XRealms to me :( What I can and can't do

As the tittle says, I recently resubbed, and I have gold and characters all over different servers and accounts.

I just want to know what reasons I should have all my 'main' guys on one server?

I can't share my gold right? Can I do cross server arena or BGs?
