First and foremost, I'm not trying to incite anyone here, or start a flamewar or anything. I'm just honestly curious to see what our MMO-Champion forumgoers think when it comes to horrendous incidents and terrorist attacks and such. More specifically, it'd be interesting to hear what americans think of incidents and accidents that occur in countries where their military has a strong presence (and countries that quite often gets painted in a negative light to the american people).
Taking recents events as an example; the Boston Marathon Bombings, The West, Texas explosion. They're absolutely horrific and nothing I'd wish on anyone. 5 people dead in connection to the bombings (3 in the attack, an officer and a perpetrator in the manhunt) and at least 12 people dead in the fertilizer plant explosion, not to mention the hundreds of injured. This is all horrible things and I think I speak for a lot of us here at MMO Champion when I say that every innocent loss of life is just an awful thing.
On the same day as the Boston bombings, there were widespread bombings in Iraq. Both Sunni and Shia areas all over Iraq were targeted in an effort to destabilize the country for upcoming elections. My fairly limited research on the numbers say there's 75 dead and 356 injured, which to me personally is a level of personal destruction almost beyond understanding.
Now, I realize that incidents and accidents that occur on home soil hits harder. It does for every person, in every country. But for americans, does it still hit you when these awful things happen, even in, for lack of a better word, former "enemy" nations such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan etc? Does it still register as horrific loss of life for innocent civilians, just like in Boston and West?
Again, I'm not trying to incite any sort of flamewar, america vs the world or anything like that. I'm just really curious to see how you (and of course anyone that isn't from the USA) feel about this whole thing.
And I know there's far more examples of this that could probably help me paint the picture, but these events are all recent and fresh in memory so that's what I'm going with.
