I wanted to start by saying that I have made similar threads in the past and although I've seen improvement as patches come along, I still think there are some crucial elements that need to be added into LFR as a whole.
_________
I have been playing World of Warcraft for over 6+ years now and have been a heroic raider for 3 + of those years. I can no longer put in the hours anymore to commit to a raiding guild and I am left to enjoy this game in a casual setting. For me, raiding is my passion and so where I am to go is Looking for Raid (LFR).
THE PROBLEM
While many people have expressed mixed reviews about the new loot system for LFR in Mists of Pandaria, I personally feel very let down by it. Again in personal opinion, while there is opportunity for drama associated with it, I much preferred the system of downing a boss and seeing all the wonderful items he/she dropped. Just the idea of killing a boss and seeing a bag of gold in my bags is really depressing, especially coming out of a normal raid setting like I'm use to.
While some may think the new system is "fair", I personally don't think it is. Sure everyone has an equal opportunity at loot (disregarding coins), but knowing that someone who has only been in the raid for 10 minutes doing 50k dps won a nice piece of loot off the last boss, and the guy who is doing 150k dps and has been in the raid from start to finish doesn't get a piece of loot is just a quite frankly disgusting turn off.
I don't think doing away with the randomized loot system in LFR is the right solution to the "lackluster" feeling in LFR and quite frankly I doubt the devs wouldn't even consider going back to the cata LFR system. To be honest, I feel there needs to be some kind of skill point system implemented into LFR to rewards players like me (that can't do regular and heroic raids anymore) who feel they should be rewarded for their extra time and effort put into LFR.
THE SOLUTION
I recommend a point based system for acquiring loot in LFR.
The same random system can still be in place, but I want there to be a system that rewards exceptional performing players too and not just the ones that show up at the last boss doing 50k dps.
HOW IT WORKS
At the beginning of each week all players who participate in LFR will be given a starting score of 0. You will be rewarded points based on various factors such as; time spent in the raid, overall damage dealt on a boss/instance, trash packs killed, damage taken etc. The better you perform in the raid and more you contribute the more points you are rewarded. When you reach a certain threshold of points for the week you are guaranteed a loot drop on the next boss you kill and you are allowed to choose which boss it is from but you can't choose which piece of loot it is, almost like a token or bonus roll. You can past two set thresholds meaning you can acquire two guaranteed pieces of loot per week. At the end of the week, everyone's points reset.
The reason why this would work is because the same people who don't care and goof off in LFR will still continue to be rewarded via the random roll after killing a boss, but the people who do care and put in the extra effort to pull good damage and contribute to killing trash etc, will see a reward in the long run.
THE RULES
1. You may not accumulate points in an LFR that you have already completed for the week
2. Non-Elite monsters and critters will no contribute to overall damage performance
3. Points may only be earned and spent on the current tier of bosses in LFR
_________
Well there you have it. While I understand that not everyone may agree with my idea, again it is just my opinion. Help me feel like I am not wasting my time by doing LFR. I know I will never have the same feeling as doing "real" raiding but I have no option to do that kind of raiding again. Raiding is my passion and I just feel that there need to be more opportunities for those out there who were once hardcore heroic raiders and are now casuals who want that feeling of actually accomplishing something.
